"Hands for Larger Service" COVID Mask Crafters

COVID Mask Crafters is a grass-roots effort to get local community members to sew cloth masks to help meet the desperate need nationwide. These masks do not replace the N95 masks nor surgical masks, which offer the greatest protection against COVID-19. But they can help workers and people in lower risk environments.  This is where 4-H can offer “hands to larger service.”

For more information on how you can participate please read the attached document.

All UCCE San Luis Obispo employees have begun to work remotely in response to COVID-19. While all staff will be working during this period, there may be delays in response time. Thank you in advance for your patience.

At the SLO County Press Conference today, it was announced that Shelter at Home will begin tomorrow, 3/19/2020 at 5 pm. We have been asked to share the linked information for those who may need help navigating salary gaps during the COVID-19 crisis. We will update as new information becomes available: COVID-19 Guidance: Suspension of UC 4-H Program In-Person Meetings in SLO County

Dear 4-H Community,

RE: COVID-19 Guidance:  Suspension of UC 4-H Program In-Person Meetings in San Luis Obispo County

The County of San Luis Obispo has declared a state of emergency due to COVID-19. At this time, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county. By declaring a state of emergency, our local leaders can access emergency funds (if needed). The county is following the Governor's directive that nonessential gatherings be postponed across the state at least until the end of March. The purpose of this directive is to increase social distancing, to protect all people in our communities and, in particular, community members at highest risk of complications from COVID-19.

In alignment with San Luis Obispo County public health guidance, we are implementing social distancing guidance for all in-person meetings for the UC 4-H Program. All meetings and activities should be held remotely if feasible and should be canceled if they cannot be held remotely. Please be prepared for the possibility that this guidance may be continued past the end of March depending on national, state, and local public health recommendations.

Please don't hesitate to call our office with your questions and concerns. I appreciate your dedication to supporting positive programming for the youth in our community. None of us want to postpone or cancel these important programs; however, we recognize the need for taking meaningful measures to keep our communities healthy. I am grateful for our 4-H team, who has been working hard to support our community during this crisis.

Media Release-COVID 19 Precautions

Dear 4-H Families,

We have received information from the State 4-H office and the County that we would like to share with all of you at this time. Having a safe event is our first priority.

The State 4-H office is asking that event planners and families please keep up to date with developments in the county where event are taking place. This will serve as a guide to make sound decisions about canceling or maintaining an event, and attending or not attending an event. CDC recommendations can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/large-events/mass-gatherings-ready-for-covid-19.html.

We are also forwarding you the most current information from the County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Department. Ultimately at this time it is up to event planners to decide if they will be holding an event or canceling and for families to decide if the will attend events or not.

The attached Media Release was published March 9, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: San Luis Obispo, CA— While there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in San Luis Obispo County, the County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Department recommends proactive measures be taken now to protect the health of the community. The number of cases of COVID -19 have increased across California, and “it’s only a matter of time before our county has a case as well” says Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein.

County Public Health recommends local agencies, businesses, school districts, organizations, and health care providers throughout the county develop or update plans for social distancing. County Public Health also recommends measures be taken now to help protect people who are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

1st Annual 4-H GALA Oct. 4 2020

Dear SLO County 4-H Members, Leaders, Families, & Volunteers,

I am writing on behalf of the SLO Co. 4-H Volunteer Management Board to interest you in a great project for 2020 to bring our 4-H partnership with the Community into full view!  In light of the shrinking financial support from the State, we are looking at a way to maintain, expand, and off-set some of the membership costs.

To combine our County 4-H volunteerism and determination to “Make the Best Better”, and in an effort to create more outreach locally, we would like to invite our Community partners to join this initial effort by creating a vehicle to raise the funds necessary through an Annual 4-H GALA.

I have attached with this introductory letter, a sheet of possible ways that you, as a part of our 4-H Community, could help us create this valuable and wonderful Annual GALA event.  We are looking at putting this 4-H event on at the Madonna Expo Center on October 4, 2020, to kick off National 4-H Week!

I look forward to hearing from you,

Public Health Reminder and Flyer

Hello Everyone,

Please review and share this joint public health reminder for animal exhibitors. This letter was issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). They have also provided informational flyers to inform the public about precautions to take around the animal exhibits. As we know the public enjoys viewing the 4-H project animals, this would help provide knowledge about proper health precautions.

Please contact the 4-H office with any questions or concerns.
