Preserving Fruit Spreads Demo

Have you created jams, marmalades, and jellies out of those beautiful Central Coast berries and citrus? It’s time to talk canning! If you’re into managing what goes into your food, you may be interested in jarring your own fruits in the form of jams, jellies or preserves.
In this class, you’ll learn how to safely water bath and steam can jams and jellies as well as make quick and easy freezer jam. It’s going to be a great jam making season with all the available fruit grown on the Central Coast!

It will be held in the UCCE Auditorium adjacent to the parking lot at 2156 Sierra Way, San Luis Obispo. There will be a $10.00 charge to cover class supplies and you must register here as space is limited.
This is not a hands-on workshop. Classes are best suited for those 15 and up.

Beginner's Sourdough

We’ll demystify the process of making sourdough bread in your own kitchen. Learn how to make a sourdough starter and turn it into a delicious crusty loaf of artisan bread and clever ways to use your starter discard.
We'll also go over some of the tools required for this process and tackle some of the unfamiliar terms of the sourdough world.
Cheese Making

Join us for a two-hour class on making the most of your local dairy milk. UC Master Food Preservers will demonstrate how to transform milk several different ways into delicious staples you can make instead of buy.
The non-refundable class fee is $10.
Preserving Proteins

Participants will learn a variety of preservation techniques for proteins including pressure canning basics, freezing, and drying. Master Food Preservers will also discuss hot smoking as a method for adding flavor.

All About Apples

Description: Please mark your calendars for September 24th as we present a workshop on preserving a Fall favorite, Apples! This workshop will include demonstrations in water bath canning Apple Pie filling, low and no sugar applesauce, and dehydrating apple rings.
